The Career Pathways Department is dedicated to helping students develop self-awareness, explore opportunities, and begin their next steps beyond school. Students are encouraged to investigate different pathways, make wise decisions, and confidently move forward. The Careers Team are available to both students and their whānau.
We offer a wide range of Careers Advice Services, which include:
- Career Advisor appointments and Clifton Strengths Coaching
- University and polytechnic presentations and enrolment assistance
- Annual Canvas Careers Expo and Tertiary Awareness Day
- A variety of specialist courses including university papers online, Futures Academy & Gateway
- A range of guest speakers from the workplace
- Trips and short courses catering to specific industries
Students study with a tertiary provider (usually Toi Ohomai) one day per week during Terms 1-3. Examples of possible courses include:

- Game Design
- Hair & Beauty

- Tikanga Hauora & Health

This course allows students to explore a specific career that is of interest to them via a work experience placement in the community. Students also learn about this career in class time, as well as foundational employability skills. This is a full year course and a timetabled school subject.
